Eating less may keep the mind young

Eating less may keep the mind young, according to Italian scientists who reported Monday they have discovered the molecular process by which a strict diet may save the brain from the ravages of age.

The research, published in the US journal the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is based on a study of mice that were fed a diet of about 70 percent of the food they normally consumed.

Scientists found the calorie-restricted diet triggered a protein molecule, CREB1, that activates a host of genes linked to longevity and good brain function.

"Our hope is to find a way to activate CREB1, for example through new drugs, so to keep the brain young without the need of a strict diet," said lead author Giovambattista Pani, researcher at the Institute of General Pathology, Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome.

Researchers have previously discovered that mice on diets showed better cognitive abilities and memory, less aggression, and tended to avoid or delay Alzheimer's disease. But they have not known exactly why."CREB1 is known to regulate important brain functions as memory, learning and anxiety control, and its activity is reduced or physiologically compromised by aging," said the study.

Mice that were genetically altered to lack CREB1 showed none of the same memory benefits if they were on a low-calorie diet as mice that had the molecule, and showed the same brain disabilities as mice that were overfed.

"Thus, our findings identify for the first time an important mediator of the effects of diet on the brain," Pani said."This discovery has important implications to develop future therapies to keep our brain young and prevent brain degeneration and the aging process."

According to Marc Gordon, chief of neurology at Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks, New York, the findings could shed new light on why some people who are obese in middle age encounter cognitive problems later in life."Mid-life obesity has been associated with late-life dementia. However, the physiological basis for this association remains unclear," said Gordon, who was not part of the study.

"These investigators have studied the effects of limiting caloric intake in mice, and have identified a biochemical pathway that may mediate at least some of the brain's responses to dietary restriction."

“Super memory” pill–and possibly an Alzheimer’s cure–could be around the corner!

Scientists have isolated a gene in mice that works to give them "super memories" and reverses the course of several degenerative mental illnesses like Alzheimer's. And because of the similarity of mice and human brains, a powerful brain pill for humans may now not be far off.

The brains of both mice and humans release a gene known as PKR, which is triggered by the onset of Alzheimer's. But the newly discovered gene can apparently block PKR's release--a development that not only can reverse the course of degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer's, but induces a state of "super memory" in the mice it has been tested on.

"If we were to find an inhibitor, a molecule, a drug that will specifically block PKR, we should be able to do the same [in humans]," Maura Costa-Mattioli, who led the research study at Baylor University, told the Vancouver Sun. "And we did."

"We recognize that PKR plays a dual role, one in regulating simple everyday processes like the way neurons talk to each other [for] memory, but also has a stress response," added John Bell, a senior scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute who also contributed to the study.

More from the Sun:

A virus is one form of stress that triggers PKR, but Alzheimer's patients' brains also experience PKR-releasing stress, said Bell, whose cancer research led him to create PKR-deficient mice which he shared with Costa-Mattioli's lab. Researchers found that when PKR is genetically suppressed in mice, another immune molecule, called gamma interferon, increases communication between neurons, improving memory and making brain function more efficient, Costa-Mattioli said.

Reportedly, when PKR is blocked, the gamma interferon can work more or less spontaneously to improve brain functions--and can be activated via a simple PKR-inhibitor injection into a mouse's stomach rather than through more conventional and drawn-out gene therapy. The possible application for humans would lead to something like taking a "brain pill" to treat diseases like Alzheimer's, or simply to give the memory a significant boost:

When the researchers tested the PKR-deficient mice in a series of memory tests, those mice were able to pick up on patterns and remember them on the first try, while the other mice needed days to figure out how to solve the puzzle. The PKR-deficient mice consistently showed significantly better memory and learning abilities than their counterparts.

Of course, Costa-Mattioli said the goal is not to create a new society of super-memory powered people.

"Let's say we'd compare with Viagra. People use Viagra at whatever age, let's say 60, 65. But someone (who) is 40 goes to buy it, they can get it," he said. "But this is not our goal . . . Our goal would be to treat people who have a memory problem."

Review Of *PEAK CONFIDENCE* Course!

I’ve seen quite a few confidence building courses on the internet over the years, and I must say that there aren’t many that have managed to impress me. Most I’ve seen are simply rehashed from existing books on confidence, with nothing new to offer. It’s often the same old techniques, which have been used time and time again in different contexts in different books.

So when I got wind of Peak Confidence, I was naturally wary. The first thought that came to mind was, “Here we go, yet another rip-off out to make a couple of bucks.”

But you know the old saying: Never judge a book by its cover. This, of course, applies to eBooks as well. I gave the site a once-over, browsed through what it had to say, and honestly I was barely convinced to give it a try. The one decisive factor for me taking a chance on Peak Confidence was the fact that I had nothing to lose, considering I could always refund within 60 days (which I have done with quite a number of other products).

Actually, I was quite surprised by what I found.

Peak Confidence is in fact one of the more comprehensive confidence building courses I have ever come across. The first couple of chapters defines confidence and what it should mean for you as a person, and the qualities that one must have in order to be confident. It establishes the fact that confidence must begin from the inside, and in order for you to transform yourself into a more confident person, you must first understand yourself.

This eBook contains one of the most insightful content with regards to confidence building that I have read thus far, and it even goes on to take you by the hand and lead you, step by step, on how you can build confidence the effective way. Most other guides tend to show you ways on how to become confident faster, but these techniques rarely last. Peak Confidence shows you specific methods on how you can attain and maintain a heightened sense of confidence, without having it waver through the years or when you encounter circumstances that would usually have a detrimental effect on your sense of self.

The full complete package includes a Workbook that you can use to gauge your confidence building progress as you go along, and it’s really a nifty tool. I found it useful, especially for those with a considerable lack of self-confidence, because what the Workbook really is, is a key component in building up one’s confidence. After all, what better way to build confidence than physical evidence detailing your progress as you grow to be more confident each day?

PEAK CONFIDENCE

As a bonus, the brains behind Peak Confidence (Victor Keith and Greg Frost) have included a free self-esteem eBook, which serves as a complement to the main Peak Confidence guide. As if the main guide wasn’t enough, “The Easy Guide To Building Self-Esteem” details more ways one can build confidence the effective way and achieve a greater sense of self worth at the end of the day. It’s a feel-good guide that teaches you how to be comfortable with yourself as a person, and how negative talk can affect your sense of self worth. It teaches you the essentials and importance of having a good sense of self worth, but at the same time how you can be a better person in the long run.

The bonus also includes a Confidence Booster Software, which works on the principles of Greg Frost’s exclusive subliminal technology. They claim that this software will instill a greater sense of confidence in you by broadcasting subliminal messages and embedding positive affirmations into your mind. The software does this by flashing the messages on your computer screen, and while I initially found this a little disconcerting, once I got used to it.

I’ve seen how effective this course is, because I’ve tried it myself and I’ve recommended it to others, and we’ve all seen considerable improvements to our confidence. The good thing about these kinds of courses is the fact that you’re able to save a ton of money from seminars and life coaches, and what’s great about Peak Confidence is that it is one of the rare few products out there that is really, really effective.

For $17.95, it really is great value for money, all things considered. You’re getting something that is potentially life-changing, and you won’t even have to shell out hundreds for someone to tell you the things you can read for yourself. It is definitely a product I would highly recommend if you’ve ever experienced a moment of self-doubt in your life.

Check it out today.

Subconscious Mind Control Hype Or Truth?

By: Gregory Frost

The good thing to note about this is that subconscious mind control has been around for a long time now, and this is something that we need to really pay attention to. These are the kind of new age elements that have been coming around to us the end consumer.

At the end of the day, we have to realise that we are running around with a mind that is not performing up to standard. This is what has been going on with many of the new developments in the personal industry.

In this case, we have to look at one aspect of the whole mind. One thing that you need to know is that there are many things we do not know about the mind. The subconscious mind is one of the most powerful things in the body, because it controls the entire matrix of the physiological functions of the body. In this sense, what you need to know is just how you are going to be able to understand how the mind works, and what you can do to actually leverage on this new knowledge as well.

The terminus subconscious mind is applied in some distinct contexts and has no individual or straight definition. This greatly limits its meaning as a meaning attitude concept, and in consequence the articulate tends to be voided in academic and scientific circumstances.

In casual speech and modern penning, notwithstanding, the term is very usually seen. There is will refer to a supposed layer or level of cerebration located in some sense under deliberate cognizance though, again, the philosophy dependence upon daily folk psychological models that stay unclear means that the precise nature and dimensions of this underlying cover are either never made clear or hold an ad hoc value.

At several times, references to the subconscious as an office may cite it with different abilities and abilities that those possessed by consciousness: the unconscious may obviously commend, perceive and determine matters beyond accomplishment or hold off the self conscious mind. The thought of the unconscious as a prestigious or prestigious authority has appropriated the condition to become prominent in the Fresh Age and self help literatures, in which investigation or controlling its theoretical cognition or force is seen as preferential. The unconscious may also be unlikely to contain any number of primitive or different disavowed inherent aptitudes, urges, hopes and thoughts

Of course, we need to have much more information about the subconscious mind before we can actually and truly get around the concept of self mind control. We cannot actually just try to simply download a piece of software from the net. Try and find as much as you can about how the preconscious mind works, and looking at the various forms of technology that is around, how, you can benefit from that and how you can understand the concepts are built on this. If you need much more information about this, all you can do is log on and find out more.

The Vulnerability of the Subconscious Mind

We are going to examine how beliefs are impressed upon the subconscious and how they can effect who and what you become.

The Vulnerability of the Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind plays a powerful part in the development of our perception of reality. Yet it is extremely vulnerable to outside influence. This is specifically true when we are young.

You may have heard before that the first five to six years of a child’s life are the most influential in the development of his or her personality, but have you stopped to question why?

The reason is because it’s at this time that the subconscious mind is highly susceptible and influenced by all that it encounters. It has no base of reasoning to distinguish among truth from illusion, fact from fiction, right from wrong, empowering beliefs from disempowering beliefs.

Since the subconscious lacks the ability to distinguish between a truth and a lie at such a young, impressionable age, it must accept everything that it is told as real and valid.

>>> If you’re told you’re stupid… the subconscious internalizes that.

>>> If you’re told that Santa Claus is real…. You believe that (hope I didn’t spoil it for you!)

>>> If you’re told that there are monsters in you’re closet… I bet you’ll be pretty scared at night!

At least until the subconscious gathers enough evidence to realize these are false or inaccurate beliefs.

Because of its great suggestibility during these early years, your values and beliefs are essentially shaped by your parents or those who are around you the most. In fact, in these early years you become almost a fusion or crossbreed of your mom and dad’s beliefs, attitudes, and values… scary, huh?
The Importance Of Repetition

The subconscious mind is also extremely impressionable to repetition. The more times it experiences a situation or is told something, the more it accepts it to be true.

For example, if a child is repeatedly told “no, you can’t do that” or “you’re so bad” or anything along those lines, he or she may grow up with low confidence or lack of self-esteem.

Why? Because confidence is one’s internal belief in oneself and one’s powers and abilities, while self-esteem is the belief that you are a good person and deserving of success, hapiness, and fulfillment.

The repeated negative statements to the child become their deep-seated core beliefs about themselves. They become ingrained below the level of conscious awareness, hence the term subconscious or unconscious beliefs.

Are you starting to realize how your subconscious mind can have a huge impact on your ability to live a happy and fulfilling life?

Negative and Limiting Subconscious Beliefs

The subconscious mind’s development is not limited to those first few years. It’s constantly recording everything that you encounter, think, believe, hear, feel, learn, experience and are subjected to throughout your entire life. EVERYTHING!

The first five years are the most influential on the development of your core beliefs and your overall personality.

However, all of your childhood and teenage years also have a considerable impact on your values and beliefs about life, about yourself, your abilities, and your sense of self-deservedness. It is these years that shape your beliefs and determine who you will ultimately become.

Yet, it is wonderful to know that with the right attitude, tools, experience and mindset you can reprogram your subconscious mind and even change or take-on a new more desirable personality.

And that’s a beautiful thing, because some of you peeps are really wacked out! Aaaahhh, don’t cry lil guy… you know I wasn’t talking about you!

Change Your Mind, Change Your Body, Or Anything You Want!

It is not just one event or situation that creates and defines your beliefs and values. It’s everything combined.

There may be more than one limiting belief that’s holding you back in some way. It could be your level of confidence, it could be your degree of self-deservedness or self-worth, it could be your identity as a skinny person… or heck it may just be because you don’t know the proper way to train to build muscle naturally!

Most likely, it’s a combination of things.

Yet, this is why I am giving “developing the proper mindset” so much attention at first.

Without the right mindset you can end up wasting years of your time (if you last that long) trying to transform your body and your life, but getting no where fast. Most people just give up when they don’t see any results. I don’t want that to happen to you.

That being said; the most important point of this section is this:

Despite all of your hard work and effort, if you still harbor negative and limiting subconscious beliefs about yourself, you will have a hard time transforming your body and life. You will have a tendency to revert to your old way of thinking and doing things.

You may meet with some success at first, but despite all of your conscious efforts you may find yourself unable to break past a certain barrier or plateau.

You may also experience self-sabotage in the form of engaging in negativehabits that limit your success (such as smoking, excessive drinking, skipping workouts, eating like crap, etc.)

Once they make these changes they go on to achieve success. The key is that they already had the proper mindset for success. Therefore, they understood exactly what to do to correct their mistakes. It’s that awareness that makes all the difference!

On the other hand, if you have limiting and negative subconscious beliefs like I did, this self-sabotage may become a repetitive, downward cycle that you just can’t seem to break despite all of your hard work and efforts.

This may continue indefinitely, UNTIL you have taken the proper steps to eliminate and/or replace the negative and limiting beliefs that are deeply entrenched within your subconscious mind.

When you lack the proper mindset it can be very challenging to achieve success at anything in life. Luckily for us all, we can always change our minds by reprogramming our subconscious with the proper techniques!
